Four-legged autonomous robots for inspection and patrol
Quadruped robots — commonly called robot dogs — are four-legged autonomous platforms designed for terrain navigation, inspection, and security patrol in environments inaccessible to wheeled robots. Boston Dynamics Spot pioneered commercial adoption; the market has since expanded with Unitree, ANYbotics, Ghost Robotics, and Spot Micro derivatives. Key applications include oil & gas inspection, mining, construction site monitoring, and military reconnaissance.
Robot dogs are the most commercially mature autonomous mobile platform outside of wheeled AMRs. The inspection-as-a-service model is gaining traction in energy and infrastructure, creating recurring revenue opportunities for operators.
